Politics Former Minister appears before CIAA

Kathmandu, Feb 28 (UNI) The Nepal Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) today interrogated former Home Minister Kamal Thapa during the royal regime, over his alleged role in suppressing the Jana Andolan.

He is the first to be interrogated by the CIAA on charges of abuse of authority attempting to suppress the Jana Andolan II.

The CIAA plans to complete the interrogation of four ministers Dan Bahadur Shahi, Tanka Dhakal, Kamal Thapa and Shrish SJB Rana of the royal cabinet, who have already been handed letters.

The Commission had recommended actions against King Gyanendra and his cabinet members for their involvement in abuse of national treasury and authority, Kantipur FM said.

In the first phase, the CIAA summoned four members of the royal cabinet and asked them to appear for recording statement within seven days.

Attack on fishemen by Lankan Navy, Dalit Sena stage demo

Suicide rate among Indians community in Dubai up by 10%

Dubai, Feb 28 (UNI) Suicide rate among the Indian community in Dubai has increased by ten per cent over the last year, the Indian Consulate has reported. The number of deaths registered last year rose to 1,157, compared to 971 in 2005 with 100 victims committing suicide, a spokesman said. The consulate, which attributed the increase to the growing number of Indians in the UAE, is investigating reasons for the dramatic increase in both deaths and suicides. The consul also.....

Lankan navy sinks suspected LTTE arms vessel off Dondra

Colombo, Feb 28 (UNI) Sri Lankan Navy today attacked and completely sank a suspected arms smuggling vessel of the Tamil Tiger rebels off Dondra Point in the Southern seas, naval sources here claimed. According to the naval sources, Sri Lanka naval craft on routine patrol in the Southern seas spotted a suspicious vessel in the morning and ordered it to stop for check and identification.
