Police seize landmine in Gadchiroli

Nagpur, Feb 28 (UNI) A major tragedy was averted when police seized a landmine, packed with 15 kg of explosives, allegedly planted by Naxalites, in Gadchiroli district of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra today.

According to police, the landmine was planted in a hilly area in Etapalli tehsil of the district on the road between Chandrakhedi and Maveli.

It was seized after being neutralised. In addition to the landmine, two detonators and other equipment were also seized.

A booster and 100 metres of wire were also recovered from the spot, police said.

The police suspect the explosives had been planted by naxalites in a bid to foment trouble and cause loss of life.

The explosives were detected during a search operation, being carried out in the area by three teams of the district police and one from the bomb squad on the basis of a tip-off, police said.

Boat capsize toll mounts to five

Jamnagar, Feb 28 (UNI) With the recovery of two more bodies of fishermen from the Arabian sea off Jakhho last night, the toll in the February 15 mishap has risen to five. Seven fishermen, who had left from Dwarka for fishing in the Arabian Sea on February 15, were reported missing after their boat capsized in the sea. One body was recovered last Saturday by the Coast Guard during search operations while two other bodies were brought ashore by fellow fishermen.....

Naxals kill one in Gadchiroli

Nagpur, Feb 28 (UNI) Naxalites killed a 40-year old man, suspecting him to be a police informer, in Gadchiroli district in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra in the wee hours today. A group of 25 to 30 armed Naxalites went to the house of Patali Pandu Zore, a farmer, in village Tambda in Etapalli tehsil of the district and dragged him to a nearby bore-well at gunpoint. They then stabbed him on the throat, chest and stomach with sharp weapons, killing him.....
