Police launch operation to rescue three foreign tourists in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 28 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir police have launched a massive operation to rescue three foreign tourists stranded at Hapatkhud in north Kashmir.

A police spokesman said information was received that three foreign tourists-- Ms Rogni from Norway, Jay from London and Udoo from Isreal-- were stranded due to heavy snowfall at Hapatkhud several kilometers from world famous ski resort of Gulmarg.

He said two police teams were rushed to the scene from Gulmarg and Drang, Tangmarg to rescue the tourists.

Official sources said one of the tourist is injured. However, this could not be confirmed officially.

The entire region, including Gulmarg, Khilanmarg and Affarwat experienced heavy snowfall recently.

IAF airlifts 1461 passengers stranded on Jammu-Srinagar Highway

Jammu, Feb 28 (UNI) The Army and Air Force today airlifted 1461 passengers stranded on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which remained closed for the eighth consecutive day due to landslides triggered by rains at Penthal, to their destinations in Jammu and Srinagar. Divisional Commissioner Pramod Jain, who is supervising the two-day Operation 'Hamsafar' launched by the two Services, said 1,151 valley-bound passengers were airlifted from Jammu to Srinagar by this evening. Meanwhile, 310 passengers were airlifted to Srinagar from Udhampur.....

Bloeria committee report to be notified for public response

Jammu, Feb 28 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet today decided to notify immediately recommendations of the Bloreia Committee report for ''public objections or suggestions'' and to obtain response within ten days, an official statement said. ''a cabinet sub-committee will be constituted by the Chief Minister (Ghulam Nabi Azad) to go into the objections and suggestions, if any, and make recommendations to the Cabinet accordingly'' the statement said. Truck-jeep collision kills 5

Maharajganj, Feb 28 (UNI) At least five youths were killed and eight others severely injured after a speeding truck collided head-on with a jeep here this evening. Police said the mishap took place in Farenda village, where a truck rammed into a jeep, killing five youths on the spot. The grievously injured were rushed to hospital, where they were sent to Gorakhpur Medical college for treatment. The deceased were identified as Ravi Srivastava, Nanhe Singh, Dinesh Yadav, Jazi Prakash Yadav and.....
