Bhubaneswar, Feb 28 (UNI) In a bid to generate more revenue and employment, a new Industrial policy, providing special status to the industries in Orissa, has received the state cabinet's nod.
The Industrial Policy Resolution (IPR) 2007, approved in the cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, proposes to lay greater emphasis on the infrastructural development in the state with a new Industrial and Allied Infrastructure Development Fund (IAIDF), entailing an initial investment of Rs 100 crore.
The state cabinet identified agro processing, automobiles, petro chemicals, pharmaceuticals, textiles and ancillary industries as thrust sectors requiring pioneer status with several incentives.
It also decided to provide special incentives to the non-mineral based units in the backward districts, of KBK region, Gajapati, Kandhmal and Mayurbhanj districts besides setting up a ''Shilpa Adalat'' to provide an effective dispute grievance mechanism to industrial houses, keen to set up industries in the state.
In view of huge investment offer of Rs 4 lakh crore by industrial houses, mostly in steel, power and other mineral sectors, the new IPR-07 also proposed to develop five new industrial corridors -- Chandikhol-Paradeep, Balasore-Bhadrak-Dhamra, Rayagada -- Gopalpur, Sambalpur-Jharsuguda-Rourkela and Angul-Talcher-Duburi -- in the state.
The state's capital would be developed into a ''Knowledge Hub and High-tech city'' with necessary infrastructure and the business houses would be provided land at concessional rates to set up trade centres and multiplexes as the new IPR emphasises on infrastructure development through Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) mode.
