No proposal to remove 4 castes from BC list: Srinivas

Hyderabad, Feb 28 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Backward Classes and Urban Land Ceiling Minister D Srinivas today said there was no proposal to delete four castes from the backward class list as reported in a section of media.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the Backward Classes Commission had not submitted its report so far. He said the commission's term would expire in November this year and it could submit its report any time now.

The commission would consider adding new castes in the list and there was no proposal regarding elimination of four castes.

Mr Srinivas said the Cabinet would thoroughly study the commission's report and take action on it.

Stating that state government had instructed APTRANSCO not to disconnect electricity supply of the Backward Classes hostels in the state in view of examinations, he said the government was considering a proposal to centralise payment of electricity bills of the hostels.

The Minister said the government would provide scholarships to all eligible backward classes students for which an amount of Rs 250 crore would be required next year.

He suggested Social Welfare department officials to supply materials on monthly basis to hostel students instead of paying cash for cosmetic charges.
