Myanmarese business deligation visits NE

Aizawl, Feb 28(UNI) In a bid to improve bilateral trade between North Eastern states and Myanmar, a 35-member business delegation, including representatives of Myanmar Economic Bank (MEB) and trade bodies of Myanmar, would reach Mizoram today.

State commerce department officials here said the delegation members were scheduled to meet the ministers concerned and senior officials of the states during their seven-day visit to the region.

''The delegation will also visit tea gardens, textile units, agro-based industries and fisheries of the states to explore the trade potential,'' officials said adding that Myanmar wish to import tea technology from NE.

The delegation would also visit Manipur and Asom.

The Indo-Myanmar trade treaty came in operation in 1995 but the volume of trade has not yet reached at satisfactory level. The export growth is recorded at about seven per cent, sources mentioned.

With the initiatives of Union Commerce Ministry, Myanmar reciprocated the move and had sent the delegation to have direct interaction with the North East traders besides policy makers.
