Muthuraman welcomes introduction of export duty on iron ore

Jamshedpur, Feb 28 (UNI) Tata Steel managing director B Muthuraman tonight said the union budget was directed towards the long tem growth of Indian economy.

Reacting to the budget, presented by Union finance minister P Chidambaram today, Mr Muthuraman said ''The budget is more focused to bring the under-performing sectors to perform, without jeopardizing the growth trajectory of the overall economy.'' He, however, opined that the increase in dividend distribution tax and cess on education would increase the tax burden on the corporates.

Mr Muthuraman termed the introduction of export duty on iron ore and chorme ore was a very welcome move which would conserve the scarce resources of the country for the long term benefit.

Pointing out the negative aspects of the budget, Mr Muthuraman said ''The budget does not incentivise large investment in the private sector. Increase in devident distirbution tax and education cess is certainly negative from the investor point of view.''.

DoNER yet to release the alloted water fund

Aizawl, Feb 28 (UNI) Mizoram government has expressed dissatisfaction over the Development of Northeastern Region (DoNER) ministry for delaying the release of fund allocated for water supply project. State public health engineering (PHE) department officials here today said despite regular persuasions DoNER had not released Rs 11.12 crore meant for phase-II water supply project here. Official sources said presently the PHE is supplying only 20 litres of water per capita per day (LPCD) here, which is almost one-seventh of the prescribed.....

Prostitution racket busted, two arrested

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) The Delhi Police have busted a prostitution racket operating from East Delhi with the arrest of three people, including the pimp. The pimp Sanjeev Sharma, who was running the racket from a house in Laxmi Nagar, was arrested after a raid by the police. Besides two call girls were also arrested. UNI.....

MCC ultras blow up tourist complex at Madhuban

Giridih, Feb 28 (UNI) The Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) ultras blow up a tourism complet at Madhuban near Parashnath in Jharkhand's Giridih district yesterday. Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar today said the MCC cadres exploded the building, which was under construction, after attacking the security guards on duty. The entire area had been cordoned off and a paramilitary force company was deployed to conduct search operation. Sub-Divisonal Officer Iqbal Ansari after making an on-the-spot study of the site told reporters here.....
