Monica's case: Witnesses' statement recorded

Bhopal, Feb 27 (UNI) A local court today recorded statements of two witnesses in connection with a fake passports case in which underworld don Abu Salem and his starlet-girlfriend Monica Bedi stand accused.

In his statement before Chief Judicial Magistrate Raveendra Singh's court, travel agent Mahendra Sharma said he had played no role in getting the fake passports made.

The statement of another witness, police inspector S K Tiwari, was also recorded.

Monica was present in the court.

Recording of statements of the then passports officer A Lakda and clerk Indu Nayar was scheduled for today but their absence prevented the court from doing so.

Ms Nayar had been transferred to Cochin, while Mr Lakda was not in the town.

Yesterday, the court had rejected a defence application seeking converting of new witnesses as co-accused in the case under section 319 of the IPC.

The next hearing will take place on March 2.

Housing Corporation official arrested on corruption charges

Hyderabad, Feb 27 (UNI) Sleuths of the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) today caught red handed B Madhava Rao, Work Inspector of AP Housing Corporation at Pondur section in Srikakulam district when he accepted Rs 600 as bribe from the complainant. The ACB officials recovered the tainted amount from the accused and arrested him. Mr Rao would be produced before the Special Judge for ACB cases, Visakhapatnam, an official release said here. House adopts resolution demanding more funds for Rly projects

Hyderabad, Feb 27 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Assembly today adopted a resolution congratulating Railway Minister Lalu Prasad for the 'pro-poor budget' even as it asked for additional funds for projects in the state. However, the House plunged into pandemonium with the Opposition demanding scrapping of the sentence lauding the Minister. They wanted a sentence protesting the 'negligence meted out to the state'.
