MLA Gopal Roy demands judicial inquiry into appointment of teachers

Agartala, Feb 28 (UNI) Congress leader and MLA Gopal Roy today demanded a judicial inquiry into the appointment of 14 teachers here at Mahatma Gandhi higher secondary school between November 20 and December 2 last year.

Speaking to mediapersons here, the MLA alleged that Meghnath Saha, a primary school teacher of Ramthakur Girls School was appointed for conducting the selection of the candidates. Mr Roy also alleged that Mr Saha awarded more marks to certain selected candidates.

Even the managing committee was not aware of the situation. It is also allged that the selected candidates submitted income certificates from the subdivisional administrative office of Rs 500 which is much lower even for the people below the poverty line.

Union Cabinet to amend Act to increase traffic violation fine amount

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) The Union Government today informed the Delhi High Court that the Union Cabinet would amend the Act to enhance the fine amount for traffic violation to control traffic offences in the capital. Government Counsel Suresh Kait said the Union Cabinet in its meeting today, would take up the proposal submitted by the Union Home Ministry to enhance the fine amount for various offences from Rs 100 to Rs 1000. DoNER yet to release the alloted water fund

Aizawl, Feb 28 (UNI) Mizoram government has expressed dissatisfaction over the Development of Northeastern Region (DoNER) ministry for delaying the release of fund allocated for water supply project. State public health engineering (PHE) department officials here today said despite regular persuasions DoNER had not released Rs 11.12 crore meant for phase-II water supply project here. Official sources said presently the PHE is supplying only 20 litres of water per capita per day (LPCD) here, which is almost one-seventh of the prescribed.....
