MEA team visits passports office in Bhopal

Bhopal, Feb 28 (UNI) A vigilance team from the Ministry of External Affairs today perused documents at the local passports office and sought details of complaints from the people present there.

''It was a routine departmental inquiry,'' a passposts official said.

The team reportedly acted on complaints regarding delay in issue of passports and even seized certain documents. The visiting officials expressed annoyance over the presence of a travel agency's two agents at the office.

Further details were awaited as Passports Officer T D Sharma was out of station while office Superintendent Amar Jenus Lakda was also not present during the team's visit.

Probe sought into AIDS control funding

Raipur, Feb 28 (UNI) Legislators, cutting across party lines, today demanded in the Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha a probe into utilisation of funds meant for the National AIDS control programme, alleging that the fund was being siphoned off by unscrupulous NGOs and corrupt officials. Raising the issue through a call attention notice, Mr Balmukund Dewangan(BJP) and his party colleagues alleged rampant corruption in the programme. Budget not friendly to Aviation Industry: Saighal
