Madras Sappers remembered

Bangalore, Feb 28 (UNI) As many as 52 soldiers of Madras Sappers who died while in service were remembered with honour and gratitude at a solemn ceremony at the Madras Engineer Group and Centre here today.

Thirtyfour next of kin of the deceased soldiers were presented with Badge of Sacrifice and 18 others were presented with a sum of Rs 30,000 each by Lt Gen B S Dhaliwal, Engineer-in-Chief of Indian Army, a Defence release here said.

Among those honoured were the Jawans involved in 'Operation Rakshak' and 'Operation Varuna'.

39 tahsils drought-hit in MP

Bhopal, Feb 22 (UNI) Thirty-nine tahsils spread over nine districts of Madhya Pradesh have been declared drought-hit. In a written reply to Mr Ajay Singh (Congress), Revenue Minister Kamal Patel said in the Assembly today that employment-oriented relief work was underway. ''The state's foodgrain production was 159.5 lakh tonnes and 142.9 lakh tonnes in 2003-04 and 2004-05 respectively,'' Agriculture Minister Chaudhry Chandrabhan Singh said in response to a question by Mr Sajjan Singh Verma (Cong). Mysore, Feb 28 (UNI) Favourite Guided missile ridden by K P G Appu, won the Karnataka Race Horse Owners Association Cup. The main event of the races held here today. The winner is joint property of S Narredu, K R Digvijay Singh Shekhawat and T Ramakrishna and trained by S Narredu. Moot Court competition from Feb 24

Jabalpur, Feb 22 (UNI) A national-level moot court competition being organised by the Rani Durgawati University will begin here on February 24. Rani Durgawati University's Law HOD Dr Divya Chourasia said the competition was being organised for the first time in the university. Thirty law department teams from various universities across the countries will take part in the meeting.
