Lankan navy sinks suspected LTTE arms vessel off Dondra

Colombo, Feb 28 (UNI) Sri Lankan Navy today attacked and completely sank a suspected arms smuggling vessel of the Tamil Tiger rebels off Dondra Point in the Southern seas, naval sources here claimed.

According to the naval sources, Sri Lanka naval craft on routine patrol in the Southern seas spotted a suspicious vessel in the morning and ordered it to stop for check and identification.

''The suspicious ship ignored the navy's repeated warnings and started moving towards the deep seas when naval craft fired at the vessel, sinking it completely in the deep seas around 0845 hrs this morning,'' the sources added.

He said the suspected LTTE vessel caught fire with a couple of huge explosions when it got it by the navy fire, confirming that it was one of the gun-running vessels of the LTTE.

Kerala not to withdraw arrack ban: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 14 (UNI) Kerala Excise Minister P K Gurudasan today informed the Assembly that the government had no plan to withdraw the arrack ban in the state. Replying to questions by Mr N Anirudhan and others, he said the ban was imposed 12 years ago and the government had no plan to withdraw it. However, he clarified that the government would never deviate from its declared policy of action against illicit arrack and assured that it would take stern action.....

AIYF demands employment opportunities
