Inflationary budget:Dr Kirit Somaiya

Mumbai, Feb 28 (UNI) Former MP and president of Investors grievances forum Dr Kirit Somaiya today said the budget was inflationary and unimaginative having hardly anything for Mumbai and also for the commonman.

A release issued here by Dr Somaiya said the Finance Minister made only hollow announcements of making Mumbai as financial service provider - a global city but has given nothing to the city which collects Rs 69,000 crore of taxes.

He condemned the government's helplessness to handle the high growth rate.

Akola, Mar 1 (UNI) An ex-serviceman was today sentenced to three months rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 500 for outraging modesty of a married woman. Local court remands 3 PMC officials to police custody

Pune, Mar 1 (UNI) A local court today remanded to police custody all the three Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials, arrested in connection with the Transfer of Development Right (TDR), till March three. The State Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Pune, arrested the senior PMC officials yesterday for their alleged involvement in the TDR scam and recovered cash of Rs 9.59 lakh and documents of 'benami' transactions worth Rs 60 lakh. Those arrested include Deputy Commissioner of PMC and in-charge of the tax.....

Conmen posing as police cheat textile merchant

Surat, Mar 1 (UNI) Two men, posing as police officials, decamped with booty worth Rs 36,000 from a textile merchant from Mumbai, who was on a business trip here. Mahidharpura police informed here today that Rameshkumar Jagatjit Rajpurohit, a textile merchant working with Tirupati silk mills in Bhuleshwar Road in Mumbai, arrived here yesterday for some business purpose. Last night, two unidentified persons approched Rajpurohit near Vijay lodge in Dilli Gate and introduced themselves as policemen. The culprits then told Rajpurohit.....

Congress announces list of its ZP, PS candidates

Sangli, Maharashtra, Mar 1 (UNI) The Congress today announced the list of its candidates for Zilla Parishad (ZP) and Panchayat Samiti (PS) elections, to be held on March 11, in the district. The names of candidates were declared in all the areas barring the Tasgaon tehsil, home constituency of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, where his rival Congress leader Sanjaykaka Patil joined the NCP recently.
