How Rupee comes and goes

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) Of the every rupee that comes from the government exchequer, Corporation Tax accounts for the maximum with 21 paise, followed by Borrowings and Other Liabilities (19 paise, Excise (17 paise), Income Tax (12 paise) and Customs (12 paise).

Non-tax revenue contributes 10 paise, Servive Tax and Other taxes 7 paise and Non-debt Capital Receipts 1 paise.

In other words, receipts account for 81 paise and borrowings 19 paise for the every rupee that comes from the government exchequer.

This was stated by Finance Minister P. Chidambaram while presenting the General Budget 2007-08 in the Lok Sabha today.

For the every rupee that goes to the government exchequer, Central Plan and Interest account for 20 paise each.

These are followed by States' share of taxes and duty (18 paise), Defence (12 paise), Other Non-Plan Expenditure (11 paise), Subsidies (7 paise) and Non-Plan Assistance to States and UT Governments (5 paise).

Education cess raised to 3 per cent

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) In the Budget 2007-08, an additional cess of one per cent on all direct taxes has been levied to fund secondary and higher education. The present 2 per cent education cess to fund basic education will also remain. Surcharge on income tax on all firms and companies with a taxable income of Rs one crore or less has been removed. This will benefit about 12 lakh firms and companies. UNI.....
