House adopts resolution demanding more funds for Rly projects

Hyderabad, Feb 27 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Assembly today adopted a resolution congratulating Railway Minister Lalu Prasad for the 'pro-poor budget' even as it asked for additional funds for projects in the state.

However, the House plunged into pandemonium with the Opposition demanding scrapping of the sentence lauding the Minister. They wanted a sentence protesting the 'negligence meted out to the state'.

The Chief Minister assured the Opposition yesterday that he would move a resolution asking for more funds for Railway projects in the state and accordingly the resolution was moved.

Amid protest from the Opposition, panel speaker U Purushothama Reddy announced that the resolution was adopted unanimously.

TDP deputy leader T Devender Goud wanted to incorporate the demand for setting up a coach factory in the resolution. He wanted the Chief Minister to lead an all-party delegation to New Delhi to present the state's case.

The House rejected an amendment to the resolution proposed by BJP Floor Leader G Kishan Reddy demanding incorporation of a sentence condemning the 'injustice' done to the state.

History-sheeter hacked to death

Chennai, Feb 27 (UNI) A history-sheeter was hacked to death by three unidentified persons at Vandalur about 30 kms from here this evening. Police said Sukumar alias Sukiya (35) was attacked by three persons in his house. The three escaped from the scene and police were on look out for them. UNI.....

SWR's Hubli division records 11.96 pc growth

Hubli, Feb 27 (UNI) The Hubli division of the South Western Railway (SWR) has achieved a growth of 11.96 per cent till January end, according to Divisional Railway Manager Rakesh Vatash. Revealing this information at the ninth divisional level Railway Users' Consultative Committee meet here today, he said the total originating earnings of Hubli division stood at Rs 1,965.72 crore, compared to Rs 1,465.91 crore during the last corresponding period. Mr Vatash said the originating freight loading might touch 38.....

Advocates boycott courts

Chennai, Feb 27 (UNI) Practising advocates at the Egmore Metropolitan Magistrate Courts today began an indefinite boycott of courts to condemn a lawyer's arrest a couple of days back and demanding dropping cases against 25 other advocates. Police sources said the advocates raised slogans and held a demonstration in the court premises before staging a road roko. The agitators also resolved to take out a rally to Madras High Court on the issue. Trouble began on February 25 when an advocate.....
