Gold, Silver ease on bearish global advice

Mumbai, Feb 28 (UNI) Spot Gold and Silver today eased on bearish global advice in the closing session, traders at the Bombay Bullion Association said.

Following are the closing rates of Silver and Gold: Silver (per kg) 999 fineness grade : Rs 20,550 (20,695), Gold (per 10 gm): Gold 99.5 purity standard mint : Rs 9,715 (9,820), Gold 99.9 purity pure gold : Rs 9,765 (9,865).

Budget good for the SSI sector

Mumbai, Feb 28 (UNI) Chamber of Small Industry Associations president M R Khambete has welcomed the Union budget saying certain reliefs have been provided to the SME sector in view of its potential to generate more employment and enhance its competitiveness. ''The hike in excise exemption upto Rs 1.5 crore is a major relief to this sector. Concessions to the food processing industries, plywood, water purifying equipments and bio-diesel, will prove useful for the growth of these industries,'' Mr Khambete said......

Sensex recovers smartly at 13,255 pts

Mumbai, Feb 28 (UNI) The BSE Sensex began to recover smartly, as the Union finance minister (FM) reads out the tax proposals. It had struck a fresh intra-day high of 13,255.68 from today's opening at 13,045 points. IFCI saw huge volumes of 1.28 crore shares on BSE. The stock was down 4.46 per cent to Rs 28.90. Hindustan Motors climbed 8.05 per cent to Rs 41.60, as the company expects to earn Rs 295 crore in five tranches, spread.....

Sensex down 500 pts as Fin Budget falls short of expectations

Mumbai, Feb 28 (UNI) The BSE Sensex tumbled over 500 points, as investors were disappointed by the Budget and built up fresh short positions. At 1240 hrs, the 30-shares BSE Sensex was down 530.48 points, at 12,948.11. It had opened with a yawning downward gap, at 13,045.12, and tumbled to a low of 12,800.91, as selling intensified. Its high for the day is 13,298.52, brokers said. Cement makers were disappointed after excise duty was hiked to Rs 350 per.....
