Ghosts in jail

Barwani, MP, Feb 28 (UNI) The branches of a neem tree in this district's Sendhwa Sub-Jail premises had to be chopped by the prison administration as inmates allegedly kept saw ghosts on them.

''The inmates had made complaints of that nature. The inmates were relieved after the lopping,'' said Sendhwa's Sub-Divisional Officer (Revenue) Vishnu Kamalkar who quoted jail authorities as saying that an undertrial fell ill and had to be hospitalised after one such harrowing experience.

The SDO said that undertrial Bhagirath suddenly climbed the tree, after breakfast on February 15, and attempted to hang himself while saying that he saw ghosts. Most of the 105 inmates are tribal, illiterate and superstitious.

Mumbai, Feb 28 (UNI) Maharashtra BJP president Nitin Gadkari today said the budget had no provision for the city and the rest of the state. In a release here, Mr Gadkari said farmer suicides in Vidarbha were on the rise and there were delays in providing them assistance.
