FIHI herbal conference in Chennai from tomorrow

Chennai, Feb 28 (UNI) An International workshop on Quality Control and Assurance for Indian Medicinal Plants, Medicines and Value-Added products will be held here from tomorrow.

The two-day workshop is being organised by the Federation of Indian Herbal Industries (FIHI) in association with the Voluntary Health Education and Rural Development Society (VHERDS), FIHI Secretary R Balan said in a release here today.

The meeting was being held on the advice of President A P J Abdul Kalam, who had appealed to the FIHI, when its office-bearers met him, to validate the traditional Indian drugs to meet the scientific demands of the western world.

The workshop would develop a universally accepted analytical format and demystify the scientific protocols as demanded by them.

About 150 delegates, including 20 eminent speakers from Canada, United States and Europe would participate in the workshop, which was expected to bridge the present gaps between the western buyers and Indian exporters and in turn benefit the local herbing farming community.

Kedia's bail plea rejected

Barasat, Mar 5 (UNI) A Sessions Court today rejected the bail plea of Xponse Director Sanjay Kedia, who has been remanded in judicial custody in a Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substance case. Additional District and Sessions Judge Sambhunath Chatterjee rejected the bail petition after a two-day hearing and remanded him to further judicial custody till March 19. CJs of Allahabad, Calcutta HCs appointed

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) Justice Hemant Laxman Gokhale and Justice Surinder Singh Nijjar have been appointed Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court and Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court, respectively, it was announced today. The appointments of Mr Justice Gokhale, judge of Bombay High Court and Mr Justice Nijjar, judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court, will be effective from the date they assume charge of their new offices, the Law and Justice Ministry said. TNAU welcomes Budget allocation

Coimbatore, Feb 28 (UNI) Tami Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) Vice Chancellor Dr C Ramasamy today said the university welcomed special allocation of Rs 50 crore to the TNAU in the union budget. Talking to UNI here, he said the University had submitted a proposal for 20 projects, which include various infrastructural facilities, to the Union Finance Ministry about three months back.
