Farmers suicides on the decline: Deshmukh

Mumbai, Feb 28 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today said the percentage of suicides of debt-ridden farmers had come down and efforts were on to curb the trend completely.

Talking to reporters after releasing the manifesto for the Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections, scheduled to be held next month, Mr Deshmukh said a package had already been given and many other things were being done for the betterment of the farmers.

He said the government was also concentrating on the power sector to reduce load-shedding.

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress committee President Prabha Rau and manifesto committee president Rohidas Patil were also present on the occasion.

Ms Rau said former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had made efforts for the development of rural areas and the same was being implemented now. She said the manifesto contained many developmental schemes for the rural areas.

Haryana attracts Rs 50,000 cr investment: Hooda

Chandigarh, Feb (UNI) The Haryana government has attracted an investment of Rs 50,000 crore during the past two years, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said today. As compared to this, a sum of Rs 40,000 crore was invested in the state from November 1966 to March 2005, he said while addressing mediapersons at Bhiwani. The Chief Minister said a sum of Rs 15,000 crore had been invested in the state while projects costing Rs 35,000 crore were in the pipeline......

Govt may introduce Social Security Bill in current session

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) The government is considering introduction of a Bill for providing social security to workers in the unorganised sector during the current session of Parliament. The Labour and Employment Ministry has drafted the Unorganised Workers Social Security Bill, 2007, for this purpose, an official statement said. The draft of the proposed bill has been placed on the website of Ministry of Labour and Employment to elicit views from public and stakeholders. UNI.....

CPI remains stationary

Shimla, Feb 28 (UNI) All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW), on base 2001-100, for January this fiscal remained stationary at 127 points, Labour Bureau sources today said. The index recorded an increase of four points in Sholapur Centre, three points in Rajkot centre, two points in 11 centres and one points in 24 centres, while it decreased by four points in Labac-Silcher centre.
