Exemption limit for cash transaction raised to Rs 50,000

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) The exemption limit for individuals and HUFs under the Banking Cash Transactions Tax (BCTT) has been raised to Rs 50,000 from Rs 25,000.

Cash withdrawals by the Central and State Government have been excluded from the scope of BCTT.

Finance Minister P Chidambaram while presenting the Union Budget for 2007-08 in Lok Sabha today said that as other instruments become more effective, it would be possible to review the provision next year.

Allocation for the North-Eastern region enhanced

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) The total budget allocation in 2007-08 for the North-Eastern Region, culled out from allocations under different Ministries/Department has been increased from Rs.12,041 crore in 2006-07 to Rs.14,365 crore in 2007-08. Mumbai, Mar 6 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today directed the State CID to complete investigations into the alleged custodial death of Sayyad Khawja Yunus, an accused in the 2002 Ghatkopar BEST bomb blast case within a month.
