Diamond traders welcome budget proposals with a bang

Ahmedabad, Feb 28 (UNI) Diamonds exports will receive a boost following Finance Minister P Chidambaram's budget proposal to reduce the duty on cut and polished diamonds from five per cent to three.

Welcoming the Budget provisions, Gems and Jewellery Trade Council of India (GJTCI) president Shantibhai Shah said the industry will be benefited from the relief in duty on cut and polished diamonds.

Meanwhile, diamonds traders in Bapunagar area welcomed the budget with a bang by bursting crackers and expressed happiness over the proposal.

Gujarat is a major centre for cut and polished diamonds and traders hope that exports growth would be higher in coming months.

Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot and the Saurashtra region are major processing centres for diamond.

Don't ignore food processing industry: Khambatta

Ahmedabad, Feb 28 (UNI) With the Union Budget for 2007-08 not offering much to the food processing industry, Piruz Khambatta, Chairman, CII Food Processing Committee, Gujarat-Council, said ''the industry needs a boost.'' Budget proposals might curb Real Estate boom: Experts

Mumbai, Feb 28 (UNI) Realty experts today said the real estate boom will end now since the tax concession hitherto granted under 80 IB for construction under 1,000 square feet in Delhi and Mumbai and under 1,500 square feet built-up area in Bangalore has been withdrawn in the Union Budget for 2007-08. AIAI expresses mixed reaction to Union Budget

Mumbai, Feb 28 (UNI) The All India Association of Industries (AIAI) today expressed mixed reactions to the Union Budget 2007-08 and said the Union Finance Minister could have done better.
