Delhi Congress welcomes budget; BJP terms it 'pro-capitalist'

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) The Union Budget for 2007-2008 presented by Finance Minister P Chidambaram today elicited diverse reactions from the political parties in Delhi with the BJP terming it as a ''budget for the Capitalist and not for the poor'', while the Congress described it as a ''well balanced budget which would pave way for benefit of one and all''.

Reacting to the Union Budget proposals, leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Legislative assembly and Ex-Finance Minister Jagdish Mukhi said,''this Budget is not for "Hindustan" but for "India" which means this Budget is for Capitalists and not for the poor.'' Prof Mukhi said this Budget not only disappointed the common masses but also the Industrialists.

The people of India, who were facing extreme price rise, were hopeful the Government will take concrete steps to check the rate of inflation, but in this budget no drastic steps have been taken to check price rise.

''Industrialists will have to pay more taxes in comparison to what they are paying, which will directly affect the economy. No steps have been proposed for creating employment avenues,''he said.

On the other hand, the Congress in Delhi welcomed the Budget terming it as ''a well balanced budget which would pave way for benefit of one and all''.

DPCC chief Rambabu Sharma appreciated the enhancement in the budget for weaker sections, scheduled caste, scheduled tribes, OBC, handicapped, children and women.

He also welcomed the enhancement of tax exemption limit for women upto Rs 1.45 lakh and Rs 1.95 lakh for senior citizens.
