Cold wave sweeps J

Jammu, feb 28 (uni) Cold wave continued to sweep across Jammu and Kashmir today, even as weathermen predicted isolated showers at low-lying areas and snowfall on the higher reaches of the region during the next two days.

Meanwhile, the state experienced normal to heavy rainfall since last night, resulting in bitter cold and slippery roads which paralysed the normal life of people.

The MET office said Jammu city recorded 17.6 degrees Celsius, Katra 13.6 degrees, Banihal 9.6 degrees, Batote 4.0 and Qazigund 3.8 degress Celsius.

Rain, snow hit HP, Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh, Feb 28 (UNI) Moderate to heavy snowfall occured in Himachal Pradesh while lower areas of the hilly state and plains of Punjab and Haryana received widespread rains since last night, reviving wintry conditions at most places in the region. Shimla and upper areas of the district had another spell of snowfall, preceded and followed by intermittent rain. The entire tribal belt of Himachal Pradesh experienced heavy snowfall, making the people groan under severe cold wave conditions in the tribal.....

Hooda hails budget as 'growth-oriented'

Chandigarh, Feb 28 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today hailed the Union Budget for 2007-08 as growth-oriented and said it would benefit all sections of the society. UP notifies resignations of seven ministers

Lucknow, Feb 28 (UNI) After much delay, the Uttar Pradesh government today notified the resignations of seven ministers, who had been disqualified by the Supreme Court along with six others on February 14. These ministers -- one cabinet rank and six ministers of state-- had resigned on February 15. Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav had in turn handed over their resignations to Governor T V Rajeswar.
