CII welcomes budget

Coimbatore, Feb 28 (UNI) The Confederation at Indian Industris (CII)Coimbatore Region, Chairman Jaasyakumar Ramadas today said the budget presented by Union finance Minister P Chidambaram was balanced.

He said the allocation to strengthen all the 1396 ITI's in the counry would help produce skilled workers for industries.

Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ICCI) president D Balasundram said the pump industries had demanded removal of import duty for copper products. But in the budget, the finance minister has only reduced import duty to five per cent from the 7.5 per cent this was disappoiting.

Coimbatore District Small Scale Industries Association(CODISSIA) President Muthusamy said the small scale industries limit has been increased to just Rs 50 lakh from the present Rs one crore. The industries had demanded an increase of Rs three crore.

He said the finance ministry has not considered the demand to take into account investment and employment ratio.

He said the small scale industries were generating more employment than the big industries.

Budget evokes mixed response among Industries

Chennai, Feb 28 (UNI) The Union Budget presented by Finance Minister P Chidambaram today evoked mixed response in Tamil Nadu, with several industry bodies terming it as ''disappointing'' and some others terming it as a ''good one''. Naxals injured after encounter with police in Gadchiroli

Nagpur, Mar 3 (UNI) At least three naxalites were today injured seriously after an encounter with the police in the jungles of Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra. The police also defused a mine and seized a large quantity of material belonging to the outlaws from the spot after the encounter. Police said a group of suspected naxalites, hiding in the forest near village Kolsepalli in Aheri tehsil of the district, allegedly opened fire on a patrol party on a routine sortie.....

Housewife commits suicide after killing three sons

Bhuj, Mar 3 (UNI) A mother killed her three children by throwing them into a well and then committed suicide by jumping into it in Bhalot village in Bhuj District, Police today said. Police said the incident occurred on February 27 when the young housewife, reported to be mentally retarded, threw her three sons aged between three and seven and finally herself also jumping into the well.
