Budget makes Rs 8795 crore outlay for 100 per cent women programmes

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) In view of the women activists demanding gender budgeting, Finance Ministry has made an allocation of Rs 8795 crore for 100 per cent women specific programmes while Rs 22,382 crore outlay has been made for the schemes with at least 30 per cent women specific programmes.

In the budget for 2007-08 presented in Parliament today Finance Minister P Chidambaram assured the women groups that the government has made sincere efforts to remove the errors pointed out in last year's statement.

Pointing out that the awareness of gender sensitivities of budgetary allocations have grown, Mr Chidambaram said for 2007-08, 27 ministries/departments and five union territories covering 33 demand for grants have contributed to a statement placed in the budget papers.

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) In an all-out effort to eradicate polio from the country, the government has decided to provide Rs 1290 crore for the polio eradication programme, increase the number of pulse polio rounds and make intensive coverage in 30 high risk districts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
