BSF-BDR border talks begin

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) The Indo-Bangladesh border coordination conference between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) began here today after a gap of more than a year.

While BSF Director General A K Mitra led the Indian delegation, the 19-member Bangladesh delegation was led by Major General Shakil Ahmed.

Illegal influx of Bangladeshis in India, obstruction to developmental works within 150 yards from the international border, smuggling of cattle and fake Indian currency and Indian insurgent groups hiding in Bangladesh are major issues to be discussed at the two-day conference.

However, officials contended that all outstanding issues related to Border Management would be discussed.

TN: NBC unearthens heroin smuggling racket

Chennai, Mar 17:  Officials of the South Zone Unit of the Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) have unearthened a heroin smuggling racket following detention of two Singapore bound air passengers, at Anna International Airport here last night.Zonal Director, NCB Davidson Deva Aasirvatham, said acting on a tip off, a team led by him went to the airport and made a thorough check of passengers and their baggages, on the Chennai-Singapore Indian Airlines flight. They detained Jamuludeen Shakulhameed (40) and Syed Sultan Sekhu.....

SC declines to entertain PIL against DSP for torturing Afzal

New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) The Supreme Court today declined to entertain a PIL seeking registration of a case against a DSP of Special Task Force (STF), who had confessed in a TV interview that he had tortured Mohammad Afzal Guru, awarded death sentence in the Parliament attack case. A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Raveendaran severely reprimanded the petitioner, Centre for PIL for filing a frivolous PIL. Earlier, Prashant Bhushan, counsel for the petitioner.....

Phone tapping no longer permissible without order of Home Secy

New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) The Supreme Court was informed today that no phone tapping or interception of any message or class of messages under Sub-section 2 of Section 5 of the Indian Telegraph Act 1885, will be permissible without the orders of respective home secretaries in case of the Centre or a state government. The new guidelines notified by the Union government yesterday also clarified that phone tapping could be permitted in unavoidable circumstances under the orders of a duly.....
