Bandit slain in MP

Sheopur, MP, Feb 28 (UNI) Dacoit Prakash Jatav, who was active in Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring Rajasthan and carried a reward of Rs 15,000, has been killed during an hour-long encounter in this district's Neemakheda Lajar forest.

''Information was received yesterday that the gang was in the jungle and plotting a major crime. A police team surrounded the bandits at midnight. When the dacoits were told to surrender, they opened fire. Retaliatory firing slew Prakash, the younger brother of Ramesh Jatav. After Ramesh's death in an encounter, Prakash had formed his own gang,'' said Superintendent of Police Abhay Singh.

A .315-bore rifle, 18 live cartridges and a few spent ones were seized from the site. Prakash was active in Rajasthan's Karauli and Madhya Pradesh's Sheopur and Morena.

Three injured in bomb explosion

Cuddalore, Feb 28 (UNI) Three people were seriously injured when a countrymade bomb exploded at Aalampadi in Ramanatham police limits in this district today. According to police, two women set on fire a heap of garbage in the village when the bomb hidden in the waste exploded injuring Chitra (25), Sangeeta(30) and Kasi(24). They were admitted to Vridachalam Government hospital. Police suspect that the explosive might have been kept by the TNLA activists. UNI.....

60 arrests after violence at MP village

Khargone, MP, Feb 28 (UNI) Sixty people have been arrested in connection with yesterday's violence in this district's Balsamud village where a dispute between two groups led to stone-pelting, torching of several shops and other damage to property -- a total loss of about Rs 15 lakh. ''A police force has been stationed in the area and will remain there for a few days,'' said Superintendent of Police Rakesh Gupta. Deputy Inspector-General Vipin Maheshwari visited the area today. Fake note racket busted, two held

Bangalore, Feb 28 (UNI) Police today busted a fake currency racket with the arrest of two persons, including an ex-serviceman, and confiscated fake currency worth Rs eight lakh. City Crime Branch (CCB) police said the arrested persons were identified as Dorairaj and Babu, both belonging to the city. They used to make fake notes in the denomination of Rs 500 using computers and colour copying machines. The kingpin of the racket who hailed from Kerala was at large, CCB Deputy Commissioner.....
