Backward regions fund allocation increased to Rs 5800 crore

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) Finance Minister P Chidambaram today proposed to increase the allocation for Backward Regions Grant Fund to Rs 5800 crore from Rs 5000 crore.

Presenting the 2007-08 Budget proposals in the Lok sabha Mr Chidambaram said this would finance two components- one pertaining to 250 districts and the other pertaining to special plan for Bihar. Koraput-Bolangir-Kalahandi (KBK) districts of Orissa which are included in the 250 districts would continue to receive the same quantum of assistance as they have been receiving in the past, he added.

Patient nabbed for burning counsellor

Jabalpur, Mar 6 (UNI) A suspected AIDS patient, who doused a medical counsellor with kerosene and set him ablaze at the local Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Medical College Hospital over a trivial issue this afternoon, was arrested this evening. HC reserves orders on Nalini's daughter's case

Chennai, Mar 6 (UNI) Madras High Court today reserved orders on a petition filed by Nalini, who was awarded life sentence in the Rajiv Gandhi Assisination case, seeking a direction to the Union Government to permit her daughter Mehra to come to India and stay here until the status of her citizenship was decided by the Centre under Section 9 (2) of the Citizenship Act.
