Aged stoned to death

Lucknow, Feb 28 (UNI) An aged person was stoned to death today over a dispute in Gosaiganj area of the state capital.

The dispute which was related to a land in Sarsavan village, soon turned violent and Puttilal Shukla was brutally murdered by four villagers.

The miscreants also assaulted Shukla's son Rohit, who was rushed to a hospital in a severe condition.

Meanwhile, one accused has been held and a search for others was on, police said.

Gorakhpur, Feb 28 (UNI) A woman was allegedly strangled by her husband and in-laws in this district of Uttar Pradesh today. Seema (23), married to Sanjay Singh of Indra Nagar colony, was constantly harassed for dowry. Seema was garrotted by Sanjay and family members after she failed to satify their demands, police said. Fossils found in MP

Mandsaur, MP, Feb 28 (UNI) Several small-sized fossils have been found while a well was being dug in this district's Pawti village. ''The fossils were found on February 26 at a depth of 35 feet in the well being dug by Shivsingh,'' said Sub-Divisional Officer S S Prajapati. Raisen, MP, Feb 28 (UNI) As many as 4,000 opium saplings were seized today from a farm at Devri, about 140 km from this district headquarters, by Central Narcotics Bureau sleuths and a peasant arrested, CNB sources said. Bhaiyyalal Dhakad was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The sleuths came here from Mandsaur and took the accused with them without the knowledge of the local police. Sheopur, MP, Feb 28 (UNI) Dacoit Prakash Jatav, who was active in Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring Rajasthan and carried a reward of Rs 15,000, has been killed during an hour-long encounter in this district's Neemakheda Lajar forest. ''Information was received yesterday that the gang was in the jungle and plotting a major crime. A police team surrounded the bandits at midnight.
