Aam Aadmi is all over Budget: Chidambaram

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) 'Aam Aadmi,' the Congress party's mascot, is writ all over Budget 2007-08, according to Finance Minister P Chidambaram.

The one lakh means-cum-merit scholarship, employment for one lakh physically challenged people a year, grant for ground water re-charge for seven million dug wells and social security for 10 million rural landless households were all meant to benefit the 'aam aadmi,' Mr Chidambaram said today.

The Finance Minister made the observation at his post-Budget press conference in reply to a question on what the Budget held out for the commonman.

''Instead of asking what is there for me,'' see what the Budget had for the common good of the people, he admonished the reporter.

No orders to recover property tax as per old system

Govt to set up single agency for aid to developing countries

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) The government proposes to establish an India International Development Cooperation Agency (IIDCA), bringing under one umbrella all activities relating to India's assistance to developing countries. Finance Minister P Chidambaram, while presenting Budget Proposals for 2007-08 in Lok Sabha today, said the Ministries of External Affairs, Finance and Commerce and other stake-holders will be represented in the IIDCA. Antony 'Satisfied' by Defence Budget Proposals
