4,000 opium saplings seized

Raisen, MP, Feb 28 (UNI) As many as 4,000 opium saplings were seized today from a farm at Devri, about 140 km from this district headquarters, by Central Narcotics Bureau sleuths and a peasant arrested, CNB sources said.

Bhaiyyalal Dhakad was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

The sleuths came here from Mandsaur and took the accused with them without the knowledge of the local police.

Budget will not help MP in any special way: Chouhan

Bhopal, Feb 28 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said that the Union Budget for 2007-08 was unlikely to benefit this state in any special way. ''Inflation will spurt and the benefit of development will not percolate to all sections and areas. The Budget imposed export duty on iron as per the Hoda Committee's recommendation but turned Nelson's eye on other recommendations such as enhancing royalty on coal, thereby not paying attention to coal-producing states including Madhya Pradesh,''.....

Three injured in bomb explosion

Cuddalore, Feb 28 (UNI) Three people were seriously injured when a countrymade bomb exploded at Aalampadi in Ramanatham police limits in this district today. According to police, two women set on fire a heap of garbage in the village when the bomb hidden in the waste exploded injuring Chitra (25), Sangeeta(30) and Kasi(24). They were admitted to Vridachalam Government hospital. Police suspect that the explosive might have been kept by the TNLA activists. UNI.....

60 arrests after violence at MP village

Khargone, MP, Feb 28 (UNI) Sixty people have been arrested in connection with yesterday's violence in this district's Balsamud village where a dispute between two groups led to stone-pelting, torching of several shops and other damage to property -- a total loss of about Rs 15 lakh. ''A police force has been stationed in the area and will remain there for a few days,'' said Superintendent of Police Rakesh Gupta. Deputy Inspector-General Vipin Maheshwari visited the area today.
