Vijay Bahuguna wins Tehri-Garhwal parliamentary seat

Dehra Dun, Feb 27 (UNI) Congress' Vijay Bahuguna today won the Tehri-Garhwal parliamentary constituency seat defeating BJP's Manujendra Shah.

The seat proved third time lucky for Mr Bahuguna, son of the redoubtable hill leader and former UP CM, the late Hemwati Nandan Bahaguna, who had contested from here unsuccessfully in the last two elections.

BJP candidate Manujendra Shah, the son of incumbent MP Manavendra Shah, whose death on January 5 necessitated the bypoll, could not replicate his father's magic. Mr Manavendra Shah won the seat eight times consecutively.

Three drown while taking bath in irrigation tank

Vellore, Tamil Nadu, Mar 11 (UNI) Three persons including two young girls were drowned while taking bath in an irrigation tank at Sathuperi near here today. Police said the deceased were identified as Sestha (17), her brother Anandan (13) and their neice Raji (20). They were hailing from adjacent Karugamputhur village.
