Teacher on fast-unto-death after 11-year 'dharna'

Muzaffarnagar, Feb 27 (UNI) Notwithstanding his fast-unto-death, the wait of a primary school teacher continues into the 12th year! On February 26, 1996, Vijay Singh sat on a 'dharna' in the court premises here to highlight ''illegal'' acquisition of 2,400 acres of land in Chausana village by former MLA Jagat Singh.

When his silent agitation for the last 11 years bore no fruit, Vijay yesterday undertook his fast-unto-death 'dharna' to take it to the next level of do-or-die.

''I only want justice. It has been 11 long years, but the administration has turned a deaf ear towards me,'' Vijay told UNI in a pale voice, still hoping for justice.

15 kg charas seized in Bihar

Bettiah, Feb 26 (UNI) Police today seized 15 kg of charas from two smugglers at Shikarpur village in West Champaran district. Police said acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted at a hide-out leading to the recovery of the contraband charas.
