SC/ST Commission to be set up on Apr 14: YSR

Hyderabad, Feb 27 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today announced the SC, ST Commission will be set up by April 14 coinciding with the birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar.

Responding to the anxiety expressed by several members on SC/ST welfare, Dr Reddy said a five-member team of officials would be sent to Maharashtra which was successfully utilising the SC/ST fund component.

He also said efforts were on to pursuade CPI (M) Politburo Member B V Raghavulu give up his indefinite hunger strike on Dalit problems. Even today his Cabinet colleagues Koneru Ranga Rao and Mareppa met Mr Raghavulu and urged him to give up the protest.

The CPI (M) leader had agreed to end the fast if the Chief Minister repeated the statement given by him in the House yesterday on setting up the Commission.

The Chief Minister announced amid applause from Congress members the Commission would be announced on April 14.

He also said during April he would undertake 'Praja Padham' to know the problems of the people. He had no objection to undertake 'Dalit Bata' as suggested by CPI (M) Floor Leader Nomula Narasimhaiah to study their problems.

On the TRS demand on implementing GO 610 providing repatriation of employees of other areas working in Telangana to their respective places in public sector undertakings (PSUs), Dr Reddy said though there was no such provision in the Girglani Commission report, the government would give instructions to the undertakings to implement order.

Recruitment of engineers to TRANSCO had been stopped to ensure justice to Telangana people.
