Rickshaw puller killed in firing

Bilaspur, Feb 27 (UNI) A rickshaw puller was killed and another injured as a member of a marriage procession fired in the air here last night, police said.

Police said when a marriage party from Bhopal reached a marriage hall on the bypass road here around 2300 hours, someone fired in the air injuring a rickshawpuller Dinesh Sarthi who was passing nearby and another local resident Yogesh Sahu, a guest of the bride's family.

The rickshaw puller was declared brought dead when taken to Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Science, where Yogesh Sahu was being treated.

Police said gun shot wounds were found on the body of the rickshawpuller. Police detained four members of the marriage party and were interrogating them.

School kids held hostage

Chhatarpur(MP), Feb 27 (UNI) A total of 19 students of a private primary school at Chithahari village in this district were held hostage at gun point for few hours yesterday by an absconding criminal in order to force the villagers to change their statement against him. Police said Virpal, who was evading arrest since he was made an accused in the murder of Bhagwan Das Rajput at Bhidka village in March last year, held the children in captivity at the class.....

Complaint against CARE rating of Maheshwar project

Bhopal, Feb 27 (UNI) The Narmada Bachao Andolan has filed a complaint with the Securities Exchange Board of India against credit rating agency CARE for the rating of S Kumar's Shree Maheshwar Hydel Power Corporation's debentures for Rs 400 crore for violating SEBI norms. Talking to reporters here today, NBA spokesman Alok Agarwal said CARE issued Triple A rating to the proposed optionally fully convertible debentures (OFCD) in flagrant contravension of SEBI regulations since the CARE Chairman P V Narasimham is.....

No new taxes in Chhattisgarh budget

Raipur, Feb27 (UNI) No new taxes have been proposed in the Rs 15,510 crore Chhattisgarh Budget for 2007-08 which offers among other things reduction in the interest on farm loans to 6 per cent, lowest in the country. Presenting the Budget in the state assembly today, Chief Minister Raman Singh, who also holds the finance portfolio, said social sector gets priority in the budget with special emphasis on food security, empowerment of farmers, women, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes and providing.....
