Price rise to be checked without affecting growth: PM

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said his government was trying to bring down the prices of essential commodities without affecting the growth process.

''We are trying to control inflation while stimulating the growth impulses in our economy, though it was a difficult task,'' he told reporters in Parliament complex.

The government was also ready to discuss in Parliament the spiralling prices, he said.

''We are willing to discuss and debate all issues, be it Quattrocchi or price rise,'' the Prime Minister said.

Farmers suicides on the decline: Deshmukh

Mumbai, Feb 28 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today said the percentage of suicides of debt-ridden farmers had come down and efforts were on to curb the trend completely. Singur compensation extended to unrecorded share croppers

Singur, West Bengal, Feb 28 (UNI) The unrecorded share croppers of the acquired agricultural land for the Tatas' small car project in Singur will get 25 per cent of the total compensation, a district official said today. Hooghly District Magistrate Vinod Kumar said altogether 170 such people, who used to till the land before acquisition, would get the benefit subject to application to the local Block Development Officer within 15 days. New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) The Delhi Union of Journalists (DUJ) today condemned the arrest of the Editor and Managing Director of Mangalore-based eveninger 'Karavali Ale' and demanded a probe into the incident.
