Karnal, Feb 27: Former Haryana Chief Minister and INLD supremo Om Prakash Chautala today hailed the victory of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Punjab and BJP in Uttarakhand and said it would have an impact on the Centre.

Talking to sources, he said the defeat of the Congress in Punjab and Uttarakhand would snowball into the formation of the third front at the Centre. The Congress was also poised to perform miserably in the forthcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh, he added.

Inflation and rising prices led to the defeat of the Congress, Mr Chautala said.

Mr Chautala, who had campaigned in several constituencies in Punjab, congratulated his friend and SAD supremo Parkash Singh Badal.

He said the Congress in Punjab was defeated due to the wrong policies of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh which led to shortage of power, water and fertilisers.

The announcements of SEZs and granting of cultivable land to the big industrial houses made the farmers believe that they were being ''eliminated''.
