More candidates in fray for AP Legislative Council polls

Hyderabad, Feb 27 (UNI) The total number of contesting candidates for the new state Legislative Council had increased to 404.

According to an official release here, 280 candidates have filed thier nomination papers from eight Graduate constituencies, 68 in six teachers constituencies and 56 candidates for 21 Local Authority constituencies (LACs).

Out of the above, one candidate in Kadapa, two in Anantapur and two in Krishna LACs, were declared elected.

Steps taken to reduce mud contents in river Periyar

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 7 (UNI) With all possible steps taken to reduce the mud contents in river Periyar, there is no need for anxiety in this regard, the Kerala Assembly was told today. Replying to the notice for an adjournment motion sought to be moved by V D Satheesan of the Congress on the issue, river Resources Minister N K Premachandran said mud contents in Periyar water had come down considerably following increased inflow of waters due to resumption of power generation.....
