Mixed bag for father-son contestants

Chandigarh, Feb 27 (UNI) It was a mixed bag for three pairs of father-sons who contested the Punjab assembly elections from different constituencies.

Former Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) candidate Capt Kanwaljit Singh won from Banur constituency while his son Jasjit Singh (SAD) lost the Kharar seat. While it was third consecutive win for Capt Kanwaljit Singh, his son contested the polls for the first time.

For SAD (Amritsar) chief Simranjit Singh Mann and his son Imaan Singh, it was a double defeat. While veteran Simranjit Mann lost the Dhanaula seat, his son was defeated from Sirhand constituency.

The luckiest father-son pair was Swarna Singh (BJP) and his son Mohan Lal (SAD) who were both elected from Phagwara (reserved) and Banga (reserved) constituencies respectively.

Counting for 60 assembly seats begins in Manipur

Imphal, Feb 27 (UNI) Counting of votes for 60 assembly seats in Manipur, which went to the polls in three phases on February 8, 14 and 23, began at 0800 hrs this morning amid tight security arrangements. Tripura seeks PM's intervention for extenstion of rail upto Sabroom

Agartala, Mar 10 (UNI) The Tripura Assembly has adopted a resolution seeking Prime Minister Monmohan Singh's intervention for extension of railway line upto Sabroom in Tripura's south district, during next budget.
