Militants trigger IED while another defused in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 27 (UNI) Militants triggered a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the outskirts of the city while another was defused by the police in south Kashmir last night, a police spokesman said today.

He said militants detonated an IED planted beside the road at Tangbagh on the Eidgah-Soura road late last night.

An electric transformer and window panes of nearby houses were damaged due to the impact of the blast. However, no one was injured.

He said the police averted a major tragedy when they detected an IED planted in a three wheeler which was parked near the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla last night.

The area was cordoned off and all those present were shifted to safer places. Later, the bomb disposal squad defused the IED.

Earlier, during the day, the police recovered an explosive laden car near Life Insurance Corporation of Indian (LIC) at Anantnag which was later defused.

AP Assembly adjourned amid pandemonium

Karunanidhi urges PM to take up firing incidents with Lanka

Chennai, Feb 27 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today expressed concern over the series of firing incidents by the Sri Lankan Navy on innocent fishermen here and urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take up the matter with the Island government to prevent such attacks. Centre, TN Govt 'lethargic' towards attack on fishermen: Jaya

Chennai, Feb 27 (UNI) Expressing concern over the increasing attacks on Indian fishermen by the Lankan Navy in the high seas, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa today criticised the Centre and the state government for their lethargic attitude on the issue.
