K'taka BJP celebrates win in Uttarakhand, Punjab

Bangalore, Feb 27 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party in Karnataka celebrated the party's electoral success in Uttarakhand and Punjab, with workers distributing sweets and bursting fire crackers in the city and other places in the State.

Party State President D V Sadananda Gowda said the results in the two North Indian States were clear indicators of the political change the country would see in the coming days. People had rejected the Congress in the two States for its ''anti-people'' policies and the ''anti-Congress'' wave was spreading fast across the country.

The results were also a reflection of the failure of the UPA Government at the Centre. The electorate had reacted to the Union Government's failure to rein in the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities and inflation rates. Besides, the Congress was paying the price for ignoring the good work done by the previous NDA Government, he claimed.

Cauvery agitation enters 17th day

Mysore, Feb 21 (UNI) Protests against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal continued unabated in the Cauvery basin districts of Mandya, Mysore and Chamarajanagar for the 17th day today. Speaker disallows opposition adjournment motions

Inquiry ordered into Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan project misuse

Bangalore, Feb 27 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today directed the State Chief Secretary to hold an inquiry within three months on a complaint, alleging misuse of funds allotted under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan project for improvement of school infrastructure in the State, especially at Mudhol in Bagalkot district. Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Mr Justice B S Patil admitted a public interest litigation, filed by social activist Manohar Ravatapa Byalewad, alleging that the works carried out under the project.....
