Karnataka: No let up in Cauvery agitation

Mysore, Feb 27: Dharnas, processions, road blockades and fasts continued against the award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal in the Cauvery basin districts of Mandya, Mysore and Chamarajanagar in Karnataka for the 23rd day today, without any let up.

In Mandya, farmers and various organisations stopped vehicular movement at Maddur, Shivapura, Mandya, Pandavapura and Srirangapatna. However, police authorities had made arrangements for free movement of buses on the Mysore-Bangalore Express Highway.

The relay hunger strike by the Cauvery Hitarakshana Samithi, led by its president G Made Gowda, continued at the Silver Jubilee Park.

In Mysore, agitators, including college students, continued to take out procession. The protestors submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, urging the Centre to intervene in the issue.

At Chamarajanagara, various Kannada organisations staged protest rallies. In Kollegal, Kannada film Director Mahendra and his wife actress Sruthi participated in a rally.
