Inquiry ordered into Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan project misuse

Bangalore, Feb 27 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today directed the State Chief Secretary to hold an inquiry within three months on a complaint, alleging misuse of funds allotted under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan project for improvement of school infrastructure in the State, especially at Mudhol in Bagalkot district.

Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Mr Justice B S Patil admitted a public interest litigation, filed by social activist Manohar Ravatapa Byalewad, alleging that the works carried out under the project were of low quality and in violation of the plan and guidelines issued under the project. The petitioner also alleged misuse of funds.

Under the project, schools could build compound walls, toilets, provide electricity facility, ramps for handicapped students and drinking water facility. The entire project specified the building plan for each construction under the project.

AP Govt to clear SC, ST backlog vacancies: Minister

Bangalore, Feb 21 (UNI) Low cost carrier Air Deccan today entered into a strategic alliance with Travel Guru, an online travel portal, to provide hotel bookings and holiday packages to its passengers. Air Deccan's website would host the Travel Guru link to enable its passengers select hotel reservations from over 2,500 hotels across the country, including over 1,500 budget/economy hotels, located in 160 cities.
