Farmer who attempted immolation before CM dead

Mahoba, Feb 27 (UNI) A farmer, who tried self immolation at a gathering attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, died here late last night.

On February 18, Maniram Sen had reached Kulpahad tehsil, where Mr Yadav was addressing a gathering.

Maniram doused himself with kerosene and set himself afire. He was rushed to Rani Laxmi Bai Medical College, Jhansi and was recently shifted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Maniram was reeling under penury and did not have money to feed his family, police today said.

Mysore, Feb 27 (UNI) Dharnas, processions, road blockades and fasts continued against the award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal in the Cauvery basin districts of Mandya, Mysore and Chamarajanagar in Karnataka for the 23rd day today, without any let up. In Mandya, farmers and various organisations stopped vehicular movement at Maddur, Shivapura, Mandya, Pandavapura and Srirangapatna. University lecturer held for misbehaving with girl student

Varanasi, Feb 27 (UNI) A lecturer of the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith (MGKV) University here, who allegedly misbehaved with a girl student on February 21 was arrested today. Police said Gautam Chatarjee, a former scribe and lecturer at the Faculty of Performing Arts, MGKV was arrested for misbehaving with a Master of Music (M Mus) student on the varsity campus. The varsity had terminated his services last evening. The arrest comes close on the heels of yesterday's lathicharge by MGKV securitymen.....

CITU march to press demands

Madurai, Feb 27 (UNI) The Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) today took out a massive procession in the city and staged a demonstration to press their charter of demands, including making the Welfare Board for workers in the unorganised sector functional. Over 3000 workers, including 800 women, led by CITU State Vice-President M Chandran and city unit President B Vikraman, took part in the procession and demonstration.
