EU Agri Commissioner on visit to India, Bhutan and Nepa

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) Europan Union Agriculture Commissioner leading a 28 member delegation of big names in agriculture and food processing Industries will be visiting New Delhi and Mumbai from March six to discuss ongoing trade and investment issues between the EU and India in the field of agricultural goods.

EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mariann Fischer Boel duirng her five-day visit will meet with the Minister for Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Sharad Pawar, and Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Subodh Kant Sahay, as well as with leaders from the Indian business community.

While in Mumbai on 9-10 March, she is scheduled to call on the Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh. Her visit will primarily focus on finding facts and opening doors for the EU agro food business.

The accompanying business delegation comprises of CEOs, Presidents and Vice-presidents of prominent European companies active in the sectors of dairy, fruits and vegetables, meat, mixed, wines and spirits, and products based on cereals.

India gets unprecedented 480 pc rise in FDI inflows in Dec '06

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) Foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows into India rose an unprecedented 480 per cent during December 2006 over the inflows in December 2005, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath indicated here today. "We received equity inflow of 2.04 billion US dollars in December 2006 compared to 0.35 billion US dollars in December 2005. Farmers suicides on the decline: Deshmukh

Mumbai, Feb 28 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today said the percentage of suicides of debt-ridden farmers had come down and efforts were on to curb the trend completely. Talking to reporters after releasing the manifesto for the Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections, scheduled to be held next month, Mr Deshmukh said a package had already been given and many other things were being done for the betterment of the farmers.
