Congress supporter shot dead;Tension in Orissa village

Puri, Feb 27 (UNI) Tension prevailed in politically sensitive Delang area after one Jaladhar Routray, an employee of LIC and Congress supporter, was shot dead allegedly by a five member group led by one Tapan Kumar Ray today.

The incident triggered widespread resentment among the locals who blocked the Delanga-Kanas road for nearly four hours in protest forcing the district authority to deploy three platoons of armed police force to prevent any untoward incident.

According to the complaint lodged with the Delang police Tapan Kumar Ray and five others ambushed Routray near Kaduapada village and shot him from close range killing him on the spot and injuring another critically.

Soon after the incident,the supporters of the deceased staged a 'rasta roko' demanding arrest of the killers.Puri Superintendent of Police S Panda and the Additional District Magistrate had rushed to the spot.

The injured was shifted to a hospital in Bhubaneswar.Tension was mounting in the area as the deceased and the injured person were supporters of Congress.

Police suspected that old political enmity was the possible reason behind the murder.

Extradition treaty with Argentina in Bofors scandal: Aggarwal

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) Ajay Aggarwal, a Supreme Court advocate, today told the court that there existed an extradition treaty between India and Argentina in the Bofors gun scandal. HC allows Varma to release his 'Nishabd"

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today allowed Bollywood director Ram Gopal Varma to release his controversial Amitabh Bachchan starrer film 'Nishabd' on Friday. Justice A K Sikri said, ''Injunction of the nature pressed by the plaintiff can not be granted at this stage when it approached the court barely 10 days before the proposed release of the film.'' Blaming film Director Jahar Kanungo for the deliberate delay, the court said, ''The plaintiff has allowed it to happen.''.....
