Cong,CPI poised to form govt in Manipur

Imphal, Feb 27 (UNI) Riding the crest of absolute majority the Congress-CPI combine is poised to form the new government in Manipur after results of the ninth assembly were declared today.

In the 60-member House the Congress bagged the lion's share of 30 and ally CPI four. The MPP and NCP have five seats each in their kitty. The RJD made a surprise entry with three seats. Independents bagged ten seats while the NPP got three.

The Congress and CPI were partners in the previous Secular Progressive Front(SPF) government led by Mr Okram Ibobi Singh.

Imphal, Feb 27 (UNI) Thirty-six sitting members of the House lost in the elections to the ninth Assembly in Manipur, results of which were declared today. Only 24 MLAs were able to retain their seats in the 60-member House. Prominent, among those lost, include former chief minister R K Dorendro(MPP), Health Minister D K Korunthang, C Doungel(Cong), and Ngamthang Haokip (Cong). Varanasi, Mar 9 (UNI) Hours after the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray launched a scathing verbal attack against the non-Marathi population of Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena here today burnt an effigy of their former firebrand leader. RJD and Congress battling it out in Manipur

Imphal, Feb 27 (UNI) The ruling Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) were running neck and neck in Manipur with both chalking up victories in three seats each of the ten seats results of which had been declared so far. The RJD carved a niche for itself in this North Eastern state, giving the Congress a tough time. Chennai, Mar 9 (UNI) Sical Logistics Limited, a leading provider of integrated multi-modal logistics for bulk and containerised cargo, set a record in steam coal handling with a total of 54,552 tonne in 20 hours and 37 minutes at the Ennore Port, here. Imphal, Feb 27 (UNI) Amid a massive security bandobast, counting for the ninth Manipur Assembly election begins at 0800 hours this morning in 12 centres spanning nine districts to decide the fate of 308 candidates, including ten women. Chief Electoral Officer R R Rashmi said the first result is expected in the noon, adding all the results are likely to be declared by tonight.
