BSF-BDR talk on ULFA

Guwahati, Feb 27(UNI) The ULFA issue is likely to be discussed in a four-day bi-annual meeting between the BSF and Bangladesh Rifles, tomorrow at New Delhi, even as reports of ULFA's involvement in Bangladeshi politics has come into light.

BSF sources said, besides discussing infiltration, smuggling and fake currency, the ULFA issue would also be discussed in the meeting.

The BSF would give evidences of the ULFA's camps and hideouts in Bangladesh and Dhaka in the meeting.

The crucial BSF-BDR meeting, which is taking place after a gap of 17 months, was aimed at breaking fresh grounds against the backdrop of regular skirmishes between the forces along the porous Indo -Bangla border.

The meeting had been postponed thrice earlier. The BSF sources said it has concrete evidences of insurgent groups like ULFA, National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), All Tripura Tiger Force(ATTF), National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) and Kamtapuri Liberation Organisation(KLO) having bases in Bangladesh.

BSF sources said a reputed US-based private intelligence agency Strategic Foresight Inc has exposed that the ULFA was funding both the major national political parties in Bangladesh to the tune of US million. The agency also mentioned that commander-in-chief Paresh Barua's net worth has been estimated at 0 million.

The report by Strategic Foresight Inc, better known as Stratfor, released on January 31, came close on the heels of another report by Indian Intelligence Agencies, which also pointed that the militant outfit has close links with Bangladesh-based fundamentalist forces.

Stratfor, in an earlier report, also quoted senior State Department officials in Washington saying they were keeping close watch on the ULFA's activities in Bangladesh.

Asom Government, however, is tightlipped about the report.

The Special Branch IGP Khagen Sharma, however, said, ''It is better when such information come from foreign agencies. We have been repeatedly saying so.'' More UNI
