Bihar budget indicates efficient finance management-Nitish

Patna, Feb 27(UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today described the state`s budget as ``development`` oriented and said the budget indicates efficient finance management in the state.

After presentation of the budget for the financial year 2007-08 in the state Assembly by Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who also holds the finance portfolio, Mr Kumar told newspersons that the budget was development oriented and stress had been laid on infrastructural development. He lauded the efforts of the finance minister saying that the budget would pave the way for development of the state.

Special attention had been given to road and power sectors he said and added that the state government in principle had agreed with the NTPC to set up two thermal power units at Nabinagar.

Mr Kumar dubbed the budget as a ``balanced`` one in which almost all sections had been given equal attention. He said the government had proposed for investment of Rs 58000 crores during the next five years for development of the state and Rs 10200 crore would be spent under the first phase.

Syndicate Bank opens two million new accounts this year

Industrial growth of 10 pc 'achievable'; power only drag: Survey

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) Industrial growth of 10 per cent annually during the Eleventh Plan (2007-2012) appears 'eminently achievable', but is 'crucially dependent' on removal of infrastructual impediments in the power sector, says the Economic Survey 2006-07. As the country enters the first year of the Eleventh Plan, the survey underlines the need to accelerate industrial growth by capacity addition through investment besides removal of infrastructual hindrances. Power generation loss due to high cost of alternative fuels

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) The supply of gas to power stations remained inadequate and the use of alternative fuels such as naphtha and High Speed Diesel (HSD) was poor due to its high cost that resulted in generation loss, the Economic Survey said today. The overall electricity generation by power utilities during 2006-07 was, however, targeted to go up by 6.7 per cent to 663 billion kwh in 2006-07, the survey said. While thermal generation exhibited substantial acceleration.....
