Battery operated scooters rolled out

Chennai, Feb 27 (UNI) The city-based Kabirdas Motor Company launched four models of environmental friendly zero emission non-polluting scooters here last night.

XITE-K101 LA, XITE-K100 LA, XITE K15 SI and Arrow, a series of vehicles, would operate on battery-generated energy.

Talking to newspersons, Director Murali Kabirdass said the XITE series would cater to the needs of those concerned about environmental pollution".

The XITE's three variants and Arrow were manufactured with state-of-the-art technology. The XITE-K101 is of 250 Watts and weighs 120 kg with enough luggage space and ideal for an office-goer.

"The XITE-K100 LA is a model much sleeker and slimmer ideal for students", he added. The vehicle, if charged for seven to eight hours, could run for about 60 km.

"All these newly launched vehicles do not need regular servicing", he claimed adding "the XITE-K101 and XITE-K100 models required no licence and registration".

According to the officials, the company would develop a minimum of 300 dedicated marketing distributors and dealers across the country.

Now, the company is concentrating on the southern market to distribute the scooterette. It is expecting modest sales of 18,000 to 20,000 units in 2007-2008.

Govt plans to set up IT academy

Coimbatore, Feb 27 (UNI) State IT Department Secretary C Chandramouli today said the government is planning to set up an IT academy soon, to provide training at college-level to fill the 'skill gap' in the IT sector.
